Georgia joined the union on January 2, 1788, making it the fourth state of the United States of America. Because the state was used to be under the English colony, its motto doesn't have any Latin translated unlike the other states. Its motto was "Wisdom, justice and moderation." The state was named after King George II of England. Its largest city is the state's capital, Atlanta. It was nicknamed as "Peach state" and "Empire State of the South."

The state capital was burned and nearly destroyed by Union troops during the Civil War. Georgia houses one of the world's largest college campuses in Rome, the Berry College. One unique fact in Georgia is that the ever famous soda, Coca-Cola was invented in Atlanta to be specific. It was first sold at a soda fountain.

There is a national park in Georgia that used to be the site of the bloodiest battle in history of the nation. During the Civil War, the dead were directed to just three sites; in the hospital, battlefield, and prison. In Andersonville Prison in Georgia, the dead prisoners' names were pinned on their shirts. The bodies will be then transported to the "dead house." When the bodies reach twenty in number, that would be the only time that they'd be transferred to the cemetery. Or they'd be placed in trenches, without any covering, and would be buried under the prison dirt. A mark will be placed afterwards to identify the body. The name of the prisoner and his date of death will be written in the mark.
