History

Sandoval was the population center of the United States for a considerable portion of the 20th Century. The town was originally platted as a replacement for Washington, D.C., with space reserved for the White House and other branches of government. US Highway 50 is an extension of the Mason-Dixon line that divided the North from "Dixie". Sandoval is a village in Marion County, Illinois County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,434 at the 2000 census.

Sandoval is located at the junction of US Highways 50 and 51.
