History

In 1874 the name was changed to Walnut for the Walnut Post Office established at the site in 1871. The name Walnut came from the nearby Big Walnut Creek. The population was 221 at the 2000 United States Census census.

Walnut was founded in 1871 by a town company which laid out a town site on the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad (Katy) Railroad. Walnut is a city in Crawford County, Kansas County, Kansas, United States. The company originally named the town Glenwood.
