History

Humphrey's father ran a pharmacy in Doland from 1915 to 1929, and served as the town's mayor for several years. Doland was the hometown of Hubert Humphrey, who served as a US Senator from Minnesota from 1949 to 1965 and 1971 to 1978. The population was 297 at the United States Census, 2000 census. In 1968 he was the Democratic Party's candidate for President; he lost narrowly to Republican Richard Nixon. From 1965 to 1969 Humphrey was the Vice-President of the United States.
