Evansville is a city in Rock County, Wisconsin, United States. It has become a commuter city within 30 minutes of Wisconsin's capital, Madison and a 25 minute commute to Rock County's biggest city, Janesville. The population was 5,012 at the 2010 census. In 2015, Evansville was rated as the best city in Wisconsin for young families to live.

History

The population was 4,039 at the 2000 census (2005 estimate: 4,658[http://factfinder.census.gov/servlet/SAFFPopulation?_event=Search&geo_id=16000US5552200&_geoContext=01000US%7C04000US55%7C16000US5552200&_street=&_county=evansville&_cityTown=evansville&_state=04000US55&_zip=&_lang=en&_sse=on&ActiveGeoDiv=geoSelect&_useEV=&pctxt=fph&pgsl=160&_submenuId=population_0&ds_name=null&_ci_nbr=null&qr_name=null®=null%3Anull&_keyword=&_industry=]). By the turn of the century Evansville had over 1900 residents, and by the 1920s, most of the buildings in Evansville's future Historic District were completed. At this point, Evansville's economy comprised the surrounding agriculture, mainly wheat and tobacco. Since 2000, Evansville's population has increased over 21%. While other Wisconsin communities were noted for holding referendums on the Iraq War, Evansville was the only place where there were two that competed.
