History
Pickens County is named for American Revolutionary War General Andrew Pickens (congressman) Pickens. The Tate Elementary school is built out of marble. The 2007 Census Estimate showed a population of 30,488 [http://www.census.gov/popest/counties/tables/CO-EST2007-01-13.xls]. The marble was also used to make the statue of Abraham Lincoln in the Lincoln Memorial. Pickens County is home the Marble Festival Georgia Marble Festival.
