The population was 231 at the 2000 United States Census census.

Grenola was established in 1879 when two towns, Green Field and Canola, combined after the railroad was built in between the two towns. Since it would be more economical to bring the towns together, they built a town which combined both names, Gre' from Greenfield and nola from Canola, which made Grenola. Grenola is a city in Elk County, Kansas County, Kansas, United States. . .
