South Lee Historic District is a historic district at 1365-1710 Pleasant—1120-1140 Fairview St.--15-80 Willow Street in Lee, Massachusetts.The district features Mid-19th-Century Revival and Early Republic architecture. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

History

Today, Lee has 3 large papermaking facilities owned by Schweitzer-Mauduit International, Inc., with another across the border in Lenox, Massachusetts The plants produce cigarette paper, candy wrappers and other specialty paper. Operated by water power from the Housatonic River, mills produced textiles and wire. The former mill town is now a popular tourist destination, noted both for its considerable Victorian architecture charm and number of bed and breakfast establishments. By 1857, there were 25 paper mills in Lee. The town was also famous for the quality of its marble, with the first quarry established in 1852.
