Sound Beach, established in 1929, is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the north part of the Town of Brookhaven in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population of the CDP was 7,612 at the 2010 census.

Sound Beach is a community in the north part of the Brookhaven, New York of Brookhaven. Eventually small cottages or bungalows, as they were called dotted the area.



History:

The hamlet of Sound Beach came into existence in the late 1920’s. Middle income residents of New York City who subscribed to the Mirror could buy parcels for less than $15.00 that were paid off incrementally until title was given to the property. The early residents erected large tents on their property during the summer months.
