Although its earliest settlements date back to 1802, the village that came to be known as Dublin didn't begin to take shape until the arrival of the Sells family of Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. Brothers Peter and Benjamin Sells purchased 400 acres (1.6 km²) of land on the west banks of the Scioto River as a gift for their brother John. In 1970, Dublin was still a small town with only 681 residents. The population was 31,392 at the United States Census 2000 census. As part of this boom Dublin significantly expanded its area, annexing parts of both Washington Township, Franklin County, Ohio Township and Perry Township, Franklin County, Ohio Township.
