Swoope has a post office with ZIP code 24479, which opened on March 6, 1838. Buffalo Gap High School is located in Swoope. Polyface Farm, a sustainable farm run by Joel Salatin, is also near Swoope.The Glebe Burying Ground, Intervale, and Lewis Shuey House are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

History

Originally, Augusta County was a vast territory with an indefinite western boundary. Augusta County is a county (United States) located in the US state — officially, "Commonwealth (United States) — of Virginia. Most of what is now West Virginia as well as all of Kentucky were formed from it, and it also claimed the territory north and west of those areas, theoretically all the way to the Pacific Ocean. It was named for Augusta of Saxe-Gotha, Princess of Wales and mother of the future King George III of the United Kingdom.
