The heritage of Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home goes back at least to the early 1900s. One of the early owners was Jake McCurry, who operated the business prior to World War I until the late 1930s. He was succeeded by his nephew, Charles McCurry, and his wife, Naomi.
Charles and Naomi operated the McCurry Funeral Home on East Washington St. in the former St. Paul’s Academy, a school that was operated by the Sisters of Providence until it closed in 1921.
