History

Vevay (pronounced "VEE-vee", ) is a town in Jefferson Township, Switzerland County, Indiana Township, Switzerland County, Indiana County, Indiana, along the Ohio River. The population was 1,735 at the 2000 census. It was named after the Swiss town of Vevey. The city is the county seat of Switzerland County, Indiana County .

Vevay was founded in 1802 by Swiss immigrants intending on cultivating grapes and producing wine. When Switzerland County was formed in 1814, Vevay was made the county seat.
