History
This area was natural high ground that had easiest access to the ocean on the whole Eastern Shore. There was a tidal gristmill in the area located on Mill Creek to the south of town. The Hotel Wachapreague became a popular destination of visitors from the north. By 1884, Wachapreague had twice weekly freight and passenger service with New York City. The town also became a resort.
