With a land area of 147,046 square miles, the state of Montana is the fourth largest state when it comes to size. With its abundant mineral, it is known as the Treasure State. Wyoming, Idaho, North and South Dakota are the states bordering Montana. Helena, one of the largest cities of the state is the capital. Among other large states are Butte, Miles, Havre, Kalispell, Great Falls, Missoula, Bozeman, Billings and Anaconda City. Tourism, lumber, mining and wood products are the major industries that bring income to the state.

Native Americans had been the first settlers in Montana. A variety of tribes that included the Crows, Salish, Kootenai, Blackfeet and the Cheyenne. After the trappers, Catholic missionaries were the next expeditionary who introduced agriculture to the Montana early settlers. The very first known settlement in Montana was the Saint Mary's Mission was also established by the missionaries. As more and more white people came into the area, the native Americans lost their access into their tradition of hunting until conflict grew and drove them away from the land.
