History

The population was 425 at the 2000 United States Census census.

Originally called Lake, Mesa was a stop on the Ainsworth (now Pasco, Washington to Spokane, Washington branch of the Northern Pacific Railroad. Mesa was officially incorporated on June 23, 1955. The Columbia Basin Irrigation Project brought water to the area in 1948. Today, Mesa is a small town supported by dryland farming. It was the stop between Eltopia, Washington and Palouse Junction (now Connell, Washington The station was established in 1883.
