The state of North Carolina's capital is the city of Raleigh. It was founded on 1792 and was named after Sir Walter Raleigh, the man who attempted of establishing the very first colony of England on the New World Shore. Raleigh has more than 4,300 acres of parklands and 1,400 acres of waters which is the avenue for the many activities of both locals and vacationers. Aside from its waters, Raleigh also boasts its one hundred and fifty major parks which are perfect for trailing, hiking and jogging. This very attractive city has a diverse flora and fauna which includes the wild turkeys, white tailed deer, and wood ducks.
Raleigh has very lively art scenes; it has the Broadway shows, N.C. Symphony, Carolina Ballet and Opera Company of North Carolina. But the most technological of all the arts facilities is found in the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts. In the city are some of the historical buildings and facilities like the N.C. State Capitol which is one of the Historical National Landmarks. The N.C. Executive Mansion which served as the home of its past governors along with their families and the Historic Oakwood. Other interesting places in Raleigh are Playspace, JC Raulston Arboretum, Marbles Kids Museum (formerly Exploris), North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences and the J.S. Dorton Arena.
