    Ogden was originally named Fort Buenaventura, and was the first town settled by Europeans in Utah in 1846. A year later the town was purchased by Mormon settlers for $1950, who changed its name to Brownsville. The area finally changed its name to Ogden in honor of Peter Skene Ogden a brigade leader of the Hudson's Bay Company.
